About Geriatric Physio
Clear, practical guidance to help older adults stay mobile, independent and safe in their day-to-day lives — and to support the families who care for them.
Who writes this site
Abhiraj Radhakrishnan, PT, MPT
Registered Physiotherapist
I’m a registered physiotherapist with several years of experience in long-term care homes and older adult rehabilitation.
Why this site exists
This site shares what I’ve learned from my own practice, combined with current research, in an evidence-informed way. My hope is to reach a wider audience than I can in person, and to help more older adults improve or maintain their independence in everyday activities — getting up from a chair, walking safely, managing at home, and choosing the right mobility aid.
My approach
- Simple and easy to understand — plain language, clear steps, no jargon.
- Evidence-based — guides draw on current research and guidelines, with sources listed on every page.
- Person-centred — the person’s own goals, abilities and preferences come first.
- Focused on function — the main aim is to maintain the ability to do everyday activities, through exercise and education.
How the guides are written
Each guide is researched from current evidence and reviewed regularly. Boxes marked “From practice” share experience from working with older adults. They describe common situations in general terms and never include details that could identify anyone.
